Description
This ceramic bowl was produced in a late 20th-century studio context, a period when utilitarian forms were increasingly treated as sites for surface experimentation. Rather than emphasizing decoration on the exterior, the visual focus here is drawn inward.
The bowl is wheel-thrown with a generous, open form and finished with a layered glaze that pools and shifts across the interior surface. Color variation, speckling, and tonal depth occur naturally through the firing process, creating a sense of movement that changes with light and angle. No two views are identical. Subtle irregularities in the rim and profile reflect the hand-thrown process, giving the bowl a presence that is felt as much as it is seen.
The exterior is left comparatively restrained, allowing the interior to carry the expressive weight of the piece. This balance between simplicity and visual depth reflects a broader studio tradition of the era—objects made for everyday use, but attentive to quiet moments of engagement.
The result is a bowl that functions easily within a domestic setting while rewarding closer inspection, intended to be handled, used, and returned to the shelf rather than treated as display alone.
Packaging & Care
The bowl will be carefully wrapped and shipped in premium packaging, resting on a vintage handkerchief to protect the glazed surface during transit. Presentation is intentionally minimal and considered, in keeping with the nature of the piece.
